Abstract

In 2023, the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) published its open educational resources (OER) policy, which aims to support the members of the JYU in using and opening up OER materials. The policy aims to ensure the necessary support, guidance and infrastructure to enable all members of the organisation to open their own learning materials if they wish to do so, while creating a common framework to support and harmonise university practices. Much of this support is provided by the guidance and training services of the Open Science Centre, as represented by the blog text (in Finnish) published in autumn 2023, which compiles basic information on the opening and further use of learning materials. In the JYU policy, key themes for open learning materials are:

  • authorship, choice of option and merit
  • accessibility
  • licensing
  • opening, discoverability and re-use
  • technical support
