Abstract

Construction of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) continued during 2019. The aim is to build a virtual research environment whose services allow researchers and other actors to access scientific knowledge. As Jean-Francois Abramatic summarized at the EOSC Symposium in November 2019: "EOSC is trying to move from Gutenberg science to Berners-Lee science, from publications to sharing." As the contents of the symposium show, the building of EOSC takes place from many different angles at the same time. Political decision-making, planning of operational and system architectures, planning of the legal status of EOSC, planning of services, defining the terms of participation and the development of skills related to the implementation and use of EOSC are needed. When all this is done in cooperation between hundreds of organizations in over thirty countries, a great deal of coordination is needed. It is worth remembering that many of the services included in EOSC are already part of our daily routine, such as Eduroam, Zenodo, B2SHARE. (Pauli Assinen)
