Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice document file format and prepared using LUMAT template.
  • Where available, DOIs for the references have been provided in the APA 7 format.
  • The text employs bold, rather than italics or underlining; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the APA 6 or 7 style.
  • If possible, add ORCID iDs for all authors.

Author Guidelines

Manuscript categories
LUMAT-B publishes a wide range of different types of articles, such as perspective articles, research articles, book reviews and lectio praecursoria of Finnish disserations in the field of science, math and technology education research.

Preparing manuscript
As our readers consist of both teachers and researchers, manuscripts need to be coherent to both groups of readers. Therefore, articles need to avoid extensive use of abbreviations in the manuscript, avoiding them completely in the abstract. Furthermore, before submitting a manuscript, authors need to edit their text in align the the guidelines below. Authors should also read the review guidelines to make sure their manuscript meets the general expectations for a LUMAT-B publication.

Language
The language of the manuscript can be English, Finnish or Swedish. Articles written in Finnish or Swedish must include also an English title, abstract and keywords.

Format
The article should be submitted as Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx) or OpenDocument Text file (.odt). The following guidelines should be followed in the formatting of the text:

Length: Maximum of 6000 words, including references.
Main title: Whole title written in capital letters
Abstract: maximum of 250 words
Keywords: 3-5 relevant keywords
Titles: Capitalize first letter only. Numbered title levels (1, 1.1, 1.2, 2…)
Text, charts and images are all included in the same document.
References and citing according to APA 7 style via automatic citation tool software.

Please, use this LUMAT-B template for preparing your manuscript. For the lectio preacursoria, use the lectio template. For the book reviews, use the book review template.

File to be submitted
The manuscript file should include the title, abstract, name of authors and principle contacts email, text and possibly images/tables. Additional files, such as appendix should be attached to the manuscript, after the list of references. Name the file according to the title of your manuscript. 

Submitting manuscript
When submitting a manuscript, fill in all the meta-data asked for in the submission form (e.g. keywords, subject etc.).

Licence
When submitting the article, the authors grant permission for it to be published in journal LUMAT: International Journal on Math, Science and Technology Education and allow others to copy and distribute the article under the CC BY 4.0 license.
