Call for articles Issue no. 4/2026

2026-01-23

HEROS Journal invites submissions of original research articles exploring the Romanian language, literature, culture, and civilisation from interdisciplinary, comparative, and global perspectives. The journal aims to foster sustained dialogue between philological inquiry and the wider fields of the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

We welcome contributions for both thematic and non-thematic issues from scholars worldwide whose research engages with Romanian culture in national, transnational, or comparative frameworks. The editorial board also encourages proposals for special issues, offering the possibility for scholars to serve as guest editors for focused thematic volumes.

HEROS Journal is particularly interested in research that advances innovative perspectives on Romania and its cultural expressions, across disciplines such as (but not limited to) linguistics, literary and cultural studies, visual and performing arts, film and media studies, history, philosophy, sociology, and political science.

Contributions may examine Romanian phenomena in their specific historical and cultural contexts, while also addressing their connections to broader linguistic, cultural, and geopolitical spaces. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Constructions of identity and alterity

  • Centre–periphery relations, marginality, and regional dynamics

  • Freedom, censorship, and experiences of totalitarianism

  • Exile, diaspora, nationality, and transnational formations

  • Integration, resilience, individuality, and collective imaginaries

  • Gender, ethnicity, religion, and forms of spirituality

  • Utopian and dystopian imaginaries; representations of the “Other”

  • Popular culture, education, and emerging media

  • Artificial intelligence and the imagination of new worlds in Romanian literature and cinema

  • Historical and comparative linguistics

  • Sociolinguistics and language contact

  • Dialectology and regional variation

  • Language policy and planning in Romania and the Republic of Moldova

  • Language acquisition, multilingualism, and bilingualism

  • Discourse analysis, pragmatics, and stylistics

  • Corpus linguistics and computational approaches to Romanian

  • Translation studies and Romanian in multilingual and transcultural contexts

All submissions should present original research, demonstrate methodological rigour, and contribute meaningfully to current scholarly debates. HEROS Journal particularly values work that foregrounds the complexity and plurality of Romanian language, culture, and society through innovative, interdisciplinary approaches.
