LUMAT Symposium 2023: Save the Date and Call for Papers

2023-05-08

The 13th annual Research Symposium 16.6.2023 gathers teachers, researchers, teacher students, and doctoral students worldwide to discuss hot topics in science education. Symposium 2023 is all about teaching: we invite you to expand your knowledge and share your best practices with your colleagues and learn from them.

This year’s theme is Out of the Classroom – Innovative learning environments. We’ll enjoy two captivating keynote speeches: first we’ll learn from docent Tuomas Aivelo (University of Helsinki) about the theme of rat parasites and how teachers can collaborate with researchers (the exact title will be updated soon). After that, the stage is given to Prof. Jouni Pursiainen (University of Oulu) who will continue with the title STEM subjects and us – aspects in the sustainable development of societies, common knowledge and Finnish education. Keynotes are followed up with smaller presentation sessions on the theme of learning outside of the classroom.

LUMAT is searching for speakers to share their research, thoughts, and ideas for these sessions. Whether you are a teacher, a doctoral researcher, or a researcher, we are eager to give you the possibility to present your findings and ideas on the theme of this year and to lead the discussion with participants and fellow speakers. Time slots for each speaker vary from 30 minutes to up to an hour depending on the number of speakers. Have you noticed good practices in out-of-the-classroom learning or perhaps found a perfect pattern for an industrial visit? We encourage you to share it with other seminar attendees! Send a short description of your presentation to luma-keskus@helsinki.fi by 19.5.

Symposium 2023 is hosted by LUMA Centre of the University of Eastern Finland and it is held on 16th June as a hybrid event. The venue is in Joensuu, Finland, but all attendees including speakers are welcome to join us also remotely. The symposium is open to scholars worldwide and is free of charge.
