Technology in Mathematics Education
Vol. 11 No. 3 (2023)Technological tools play an important role in teaching and studying mathematics. Calculators have aided straightforward computations for many decades, but nowadays curricula more and more demand the use of modern computer programs in school mathematics. However, it is not clear how and at which stage this technology should be implemented in mathematics education. Also, what is the impact of the use of technology on the learning of mathematics? Much more new research in this significant and interesting topic is needed. In this special issue, we present several interesting technology related mathematics education research papers.

Mathematical Thinking and Understanding in Learning of Mathematics
Vol. 10 No. 2 (2022)The concept of mathematical thinking is traditional and has been interpreted over decades or even centuries according to the prevailing notions of each era. When, we have focus on the learning process the concept mathematical thinking can be approached from several different directions: mathematical concepts, how express mathematical thinking, developing mathematical thinking by manipulatives (concrete or digital), developing mathematical thinking at different ages and many other points of view. The Special Issue consists of eleven articles about mathematical thinking and the role of understanding in mathematics learning from the interesting points of view.

Special Issue: Promoting STEAM in Education
Vol. 9 No. 2 (2021)Lately STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/aesthetics/architecture/all, mathematics) education has become a common notion. Yet, the theoretical and practical perspectives on STEAM, from its nature to classroom applications and its implementation in teacher education have unexamined potential. This special issue includes an editorial and three articles that challenge us to rethink STEAM education, reveal the potential of STEAM, and offer ideas for future research.

Special Issue: The International Conference of Mathematical Views 2018 – Selected Papers
Vol. 7 No. 2 (2019)This LUMAT special issue is a collection of selected papers from the 24th international conference of mathematical views that was held on August 20–22, 2018 in Helsinki, Finland. The conference was a wonderful opportunity to elaborate issues related to mathematics-related affect among colleagues interested in this area of research. Out of the 25 conference presentations, 12 were submitted as a manuscript for peer review. After the review and revisions, we ended up with eight articles that you can read in this special issue.

Special Issue: Out of School Learning
Vol. 6 No. 2 (2018)This special number of LUMAT assembles eight international articles on educational experiences related to out-of-school learning. Articles highlight the relevance of out-of-school learning opportunities from two main perspectives. The first perspective considers the teachers’ views and perceptions about the facilitators and constraints of out-of-school learning, and likewise the process of changing these views among science student teachers and inservice teachers. The second perspective constitutes of studies exploring science and mathematics learning opportunities in applied out-of-school settings such as science camps, exhibitions, Olympiads and photography galleries.
